FOCUS Academy

 WHO ARE WE?

The FOCUS Academy is Fremont School District’s answer for those students who need more choices in their education. The FOCUS Academy, through the use of online curriculum, provides a flexible, individual based, blended education opportunity for those students with unique learning needs. Students are able to work from home or any setting with an internet connection, as with a virtual school.  However, students also have the advantage of a local supportive learning lab staffed by a certified teacher. This teacher is available to support students while they are working, either onsite or virtually. All students must spend a minimum of two hours a week at the learning lab. Teacher, student, and student support systems work collaboratively to find the balance between working virtually and working onsite that ensures each student’s success. This blended learning approach is an effective solution for students who are unable to attend school during traditional hours, are at-risk for dropping out, as well as to students who need extra challenges or home-schooled students who have out paced their parents in certain subjects. FOCUS Academy students retain the advantages of being a student of the local school district. Students are able to take advantage of the District extracurricular activities such as social events, clubs, and athletics.

The FOCUS Academy believes that:

      • All students have the potential to learn and are entitled to the best opportunity in reaching their maximum potential.
      • A flexible program breaks down barriers to student success.
      • Providing a supportive learning environment with a certified teacher enhances the learning of online students.
      • The achievement of grade level progression and a high school diploma are fundamental to the school.
      • Academic success builds success.
      • Students need to be assisted in developing positive attitudes toward learning, active participation, self-motivation and positive self-esteem.
      • Students need to develop skills for self-advocacy, personal responsibility, critical thinking, and decision making.
